You will probably all be aware of the works ongoing along Maurepas Way (I know I am when I travel out on site!) The two lane reduction is only a temporary measure until the works are completed, the next stage will involve some work during peak hours, so the contractors will be working a shift system to speed things up as much as possible.
On the Southernmost part of the site there have been some clearance of hedgerows and scrub, this area will be the corridor used for the main services to serve the development, due to commence with phase 1 next year. It’s being done at this time of year because there are no nesting birds and it has to be at sometime to ensure minimal delay next year. There has been some concern about a temporary ‘entry point’ that has been created from Purbrook Heath Rd, the developer will be fencing this in. See the following work plan.
To the north of the site, Taylor Wimpey, ecologists have been working to collect all of the protected species, newts, dormice etc and move them away from the development area so they can re-establish well before development starts. An area is fenced off so they can’t escape back again! See photograph.
Anyway, that’s the latest news from the WoW site for the moment, I will provide more updates in the next week or so.
